Pilot episode made as part of "Seven of One" series in which Ronnie Barker played different character in each of them. As Norman Fletcher on New Years Eve he is escorted by two guards from London to Slade Prison. When the car brakes down in the middle of nowhere they have to find some way to reach Slade.

Fletcher, Godber and Heslop arrive to Slade Prison. It is Godber’s first time behind bars, so he is very nervous.

Fletcher uses every opportunity to make a bet and it is up to Mr. Mackay to stop him.

Godber still find it hard to cope with the prison life, so Fletcher decides to have a "quite night in".

A day outside the gates is a rare treat - group of prisoners is about to dig a trench on the roadside. But Fletcher decides to make the day more interesting.

McLaren is a Black Scotsman and keeps getting into trouble, but Fletcher has some good advices for him.

Fletcher was giving (or rather selling) advice to other inmates about their wifes and girlfriends. During visiting day Fletcher’s daughter shows up to tell him that his wife had found another man.
