Pan dzwonił, milordzie?

Alf Stokes sees the opportunity to change his life for better when he gets the offer of becoming a butler in Lord Meldrum house, wher he will meet the people from his past. He hires his naive and clumsy daughter Ivy as a maid.

Lord Meldrum’s not very secret mistress Lady Agatha is again taken ill while attending the dinner and has to stay for the night. Her husband suspects something since it wasn’t the first time, so he writes the word "fornicator" on the side of Meldrum’s car just when the bishop pays a visit.

Eccentric Lady Lavender sends for her solicitor and instructs him to change her will so maid Ivy would receive the shares of Union Jack Rubber Company. Lord Meldrum has to stop that plan.

Since Lady Lavender decided to give the shares to Stokes Lord Meldrum sends for psychiatrist to declare her mentally unstable. Meanwhile Ivy has hard time with Teddy and wants to leave.

Since he can’t be sure to get the shares Stokes starts a complicated plan to be set for life.

Stokes is blackmailed by the local pawn broker into letting him burgle the safe in Meldrum house.
