The First Day

Leonard Swindley, having moved from Coronation Street, starts his new job running Dobson & Hawks Department Store.

The Headmistress

Mr Swindley tries his hand at super salemanship. His aim is to land a big order for Dobson and Hawks from the headmistress of the local girls school. Swindley’s old-world charm has made him a big hit with the ladies of Dobson and Hawks. And so far, the headmistress seems equally impressed. An intimate lunch for two is planned to close the deal. The canteen mangeress spares neither care nor money in preparing it. With so much on his mind Swindley finds his first taste of expense account living rather sour. And by the time the coffee comes round he is on the wrong end of the sales line.

The Trouble With Ada

Swindley has to sack one employee and he choses cleaning lady Ada, who spends more time on gossips than on actual work. But the staff won’t let him get away with that.

Mannequin Parade

Organising the Chamber of Commerce annual charity "do" sounds an important job. To Leonard Swindley it looks like the perfect chance to ingratiate himself with the President. Swindley’s boss, Mr Parbold appoints him social secretary. Swindley is seething with ideas. An evening with Mozart and the Municipal Ladies String Quartet. the Lyceum Mixed Choral Society rendering evergreen favourites like "The Road to Mandalay" and "The Song of the Flea" to name but a few. Parbold and the President find Swindley’s suggestions lack one majic ingrediant - girls. They would like, in fact they demand, a mannequin parade. Dazzled by the thought of rubbing shoulders with the barons of big business, Swindley continues on his innocent way...

The Dance

Swindley gets two tickets for a dance ball, but he gets from no date for the occasion to too many dates.

The Wedding

Mr Swindley becomes a father, but only for the day. one of the schoolgirls at Dobson and Hawks is getting marries and there is nobody to give the bride away. Swindley is equal to the solemn occasion. The smug smile fades when he discovers there is another job for the father of the bride - a quiet word about the facts of life...

The Pensioner

It may not be Sherwood Forest but Mr Swindley meets a modern day Robin Hood.

The Visitor

Mr Swindley takes over as manager of Dobson and Hawks when Mr Parbold disappears for a day’s fishing. It isn’t long before poor Swindley finds himself up to his neck in trouble once more. Mr Granger ,the keen-eyed Area Manager, unexpectedly arrives on the scene. Mr Swiindley makes desperate attempts to contact the missing Parbold. Will Parbold make it to the store in time?

Birthday Present

It is Mr Swindley’s birthday. And every year an heavy parcel arrives from Great Aunt Ellen - a birthday cake. A quick pay-day whip-round results in enough for the perfect birthday treat for the popular Assistant manager. Mr Parbold springs his own anniversary surprise. The day of Swindley’s birthday marks Parbold’s 20th year with the firm. And he expects a present too.

Little Boy Lost

Little Alexander Field is lost or so he tells the staff of Dobson and Hawks when they find him playing bagatelle in the store’s toy department. But soon they discover they have been hooked by a 10 year old confidence trickster. The task of looking after him falls to Mr Swindley, who is determined to bring the scoundrel to justice..

The Old One Two

An invitation to dinner from Sir Charles Dobson. Could this be the turning point in Swindley’s career? Dobsom and Hawks telephone system was changed. Now manager Mr Parbold has Swindley’s old number and Swindley has Parbold’s. Did Sir Charles intend to invite Swindley or did he mistake him for Parbold?

The Brain Drain

This episode suggests that the IQ of the Dobson and Hawk’s salesgirls leaves much to be desired. And the girls are just not interested in Mr Swindley’s proposition of night school current affairs. But Swindley finds the answer - catch them before they leave school. Swindley tris to induce the High School girls to join Dobson and Hawk - with unpredictable results
